Necklaces this winter.

This winter when you are deciding what necklace to wear at the office party or at dinner with friends, remember that chunky is "in" when it comes to neck wear. Also, if you really want to fit in with the illuminati this season, it has to look megalithic., Stephen Dweck necklace designer for the likes of Mary Kate Olsen, Christina Aguilera, Hilary Duff, Kelly Ripa and many more celebrities!. Stephen’s designs incorporate nature-found materials like bone, ebony and fluorite, that are polished, prepared and made in to beautiful jewelry.

Dweck, a sculptor, has always been renowned for his ability to work stone, he is passionate about nature, and the natural form, his stones are chosen from all over the world. Indeed his signature beetle, Adam, is said to symbolize his love for nature. “Adam” is on every original Dweck design.  The collection is brash, overt, and highly appealing.

As you can imagine, the selection of unusual stones and working them, can create a large price tag, the prices range up to $2300 dollars.  There are more wallet friendly ones, as well, if you search around. Some people are even layering up necklaces of their own, which gives a truly personable look. The heavier necklaces really add a focal point, which adds a wow factor to a simple dress, and a coture quality to any ensemble.

Enjoy experimenting with these beautiful necklaces.

Upcoming fashion designers.

One of the many great things about the web, is the sense of community that it engenders, the ability to present your opinions, to the wider world, and interact with like minded individuals. This has not always been visible in fashion sites online, as it is difficult to do. I recently came across Zentrend.com, and had to write about them, they are a online fashion service, that sell unique designs from undiscovered talent but are of a very high standard, but what is really special about the site is the iStyler tool, which allows visitors vote on designs submitted from up and coming fashion designers. The poll winners, have their range manufactured by Zentrend, and then sold on the site. Amazing. The site visitors are really in control, of the content and products. Each item, on the site has a review form, so you can gauge others opinion on the piece. There are lots of photo's of each item, that are detailed, and really show the quality of the design.

So if you want to be a fashion designer, or are looking for some unique designs in your wardrobe, then ZenTrend will appeal to you. What a brilliant service.

Fashion icons - What are they up to. Dolce, Gabbana and Fendi.

The dual fashion powerhouse of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were in New York recently for a visit to their namesake boutique on Madison Avenue. The recently done up boutique is really looking wonderful at the moment, and from the last time I was in it, the store is still doing well, economic turn down and all that. The two designers are no stranger, to making an impact, being as famous for their ads pushing out the boundaries, with naked models, using Matthew McConnaughty, their larger than life advertisments,  and their passion for gold. (They named their restaurant in Milan "Gold"), the boutique itself is Gold. I admire them, for their design skills and how they keep pushing the boundaries on what they can achieve and do.

FENDI recently went one better than the catwalks of Milan and Paris, by hosting a fashion show on the great wall of Chine. It takes someone with a powerful brand, and company ( LVMH) behind them, to be able to pull off such an achievement. It may be a drawing attention, that the fashion industry may prefer to go away. The author Dana Thomas has written an excellent book called Deluxe - how luxury lost its lustre., outlining the use of sweatshops by some labels, ( none of the firms in this post have been accused). It is a story, that will stay in the media.

New Fashion Magazine has been launched

Catwalk fashion has a new home and magazine catering for it. New York Look has a vibe and wonderful approach to fashion reporting. It captures the style, passion and creativity, in wonderful photo's, articles and interviews..I got a copy of it last weekend, and have been going through it for the last few hours. I can't put it down. I especially enjoyed reading the chronicle of events from New York Fashion week. What I liked about the magazine, is that everypage is interesting, and not just ad after ad like many other fashion magazines.

For thoses that love going to fashion week, for those in the fashion industry fr just want to know what new trends are emerging in fashion, this magazine is for you.It covers every approach to the industry, and is very good for understanding new fashion trends It only comes out twice a year, so when they create, they really go all out. New York look rocks.

Find it on online at NYMag.com, but believe me--you'll want the print version!

The UK's Hot Indie Brand--Made With Hands

Knitting and crocheting, does not bring images of trendy youngsters to mind, maybe a grey haired woman, knitting a pair of goves, but definately not a cutting edge Indie label. That is however where we are wrong and the individuality of Indie fashion breaks all moulds again. Young English twins Calliste and Carissa Yeboah, launched their " Made with hands" fashion wear. A stylish, contemporary look, involving knitting.

Made With Hands creates simple, hand-made pieces with 100% natural fibres. There is a reminiscent air of the 70's in their products, a memory of the London punk underground, but yet comfortable in a modern stlye. Their products are sold mostly in London, in America, you can visit their Bobble Neckalce at the New York design center.

If you look at their Bobble make up bag, you see their real genius. I would prefer to use it as a purse, it is so stylish that you would want to be seen with it. They have taken something very mundane and made it very special. Made With Hands is giving new life to a traditional craft, and doing it a way that would look comfortable in soho

Jason Wu Fall/Winter 2008

Jason Wu is quickly becoming known as a renowned young designer. Anyone who was at the show, and got to go backstage would have seen the wonderful skill of MAC Cosmetics makeup artist Romy Soleimani and the gifted hair work of Bumble and Bumble. It was amazing to see all Of Jason Wu's creations come to life on the stage. It was truly special.

Jason Wu gave passion and warmth to greys and blacks and brought back colours of the 80;s with a modern and chic twist. It is so easy to imagine this as, a  redo of a Bangles video, but it was special and very warm and welcome. Every item in the Wu colldection was completely wearable, and would look great on any age group. MAC's Romy Soleimani's starry eyed artistry with Bumble and Bumble's texturing and crimping effects reinforced Jason's Wu's vision, that resulted in a modern Jean Seberg.

As always backstage was a creative confusion, but out front, it was fun and inspirational, and those who watched the show were singing Jason Wu's praises

My bodyshape secret

Thankfully the days of Shapewear only being for those with something to hide are long gone..Indeed Hollywoods leading ladies have been soinging the praise of Shapewear, for some time now.. Tina Fey said last week that all of her Oscar dresses were based on Spanx. I wonder did this also apply to her palin imitations. Mary J. Blige’s fashionistas had samples of bodywrap, for her to fit in to before she went to Elton John's post awards party. What really sealed it for me, was hearing that Jessica Alba, is wearing them also. I felt that I was in good company then. I recently bought a beautiful cashmere sweater dress from J crew that fits tightly. However after slipping in to a Body Wrap Strapless Braslip with underwire , it fitted smoothly , and no lines, just comfort. I could lie and say that I admitted it to my friends when they said I was looking great, but I had no intention of revealing my lycra and tactel secret. I know and  am a believer that shapewear is sexy and definitely has earned a place in my wardrobe.
